Utimio Trujillo, PT, DPT

Dr. Utimio (Uti) Trujillo, PT, DPT, is a Tucson native and Assistant Professor of Practice in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Arizona, where he serves as Module Director for DPT 600: Foundational Studies. Dr. Trujillo earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in 2020 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Arizona. He is a licensed physical therapist in Arizona with clinical experience spanning acute care, home health, and outpatient orthopedics, and he is currently practicing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Acute Care and has his own Cash Pay Outpatient Clinic. His certifications include dry needling and APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Level 1. Beyond DPT 600, Dr. Trujillo teaches in DPT 610: Acute Care Studies and DPT 620: Community and Rural Studies, and he is helping develop a new elective, DPT 791, to prepare students for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam. His academic interests center on exercise science, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning, and he is passionate about building curriculum grounded in active, hands-on learning.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Trujillo is an active, lifelong learner who believes movement is medicine — for patients and for himself. He's been doing CrossFit since 2012, has taught himself to surf, and is currently learning Muay Thai, alongside a long list of other pursuits: mountain biking, cycling, trail running, hiking, backpacking, and (formerly) rock climbing. Anything outdoors is his happy place. He brings that same curiosity and adaptability into teaching, drawing on lessons from people and experiences of all kinds, and he considers himself a genuinely introspective, ever-evolving learner. He has wanted to work in PT education since becoming a physical therapist in 2020, and he's excited to help this cohort build the foundation for their own careers.
